Small Business Development

According to a 2019 McKinsey study on women in the workplace (1), corporate America has made little progress in terms of improving women’s representation. Women continue to be underrepresented at every level, and women of color are the most underrepresented group of all, lagging behind white men, men of color and white women.

The good news is women-owned businesses are exploding.  According to the 2019 State of Women-Owned Business Report from American Express (2), between 2014 and 2019 the number of women-owned businesses rose to nearly 13 million, representing 42% of all businesses in the United States. And even more interestingly, “sidepreneurship” for women grew 39% (also known as part-time entrepreneurs), with the highest growth rate among African American women — triple that for all businesses.

Ladies, let’s smashe this.
